About the Public Service Scholarship
The Johns Hopkins SAIS Public Service Scholarship is designed to encourage future leaders who aspire to serve in government agencies, non-profit organizations, international institutions, and mission-driven private sector organizations.
The programme includes two scholarship pathways:
- Public Service Fellows for students enrolled in the Master of Arts in International Relations (MAIR) programme.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be citizens of any country.
- Gain admission to either:
- The Master of Arts in International Relations (MAIR) programme (for Public Service Fellows), or
- The Master of International Public Policy (MIPP) programme (for Public Service Scholars).
- Study on the Washington, DC campus.
- Demonstrate strong leadership ability, academic excellence, and commitment to public service.
- Financial need may receive additional consideration.
- Note that scholarship awards cannot be deferred or applied to exchange or dual-degree programmes.
How to Apply
To apply for the Public Service Scholarship:
- Apply for admission to an eligible MAIR or MIPP programme at Johns Hopkins SAIS.
- Indicate “Yes” when asked if you wish to be considered for institutional financial aid.
- Indicate “Yes” when asked if you wish to be considered for a Public Service Award.
- Complete and submit the Financial Assistance Application.
- Submit the required scholarship essay and any supporting documents.
- If you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, complete the FAFSA using the Johns Hopkins SAIS school code E00474.
- Submit all application materials before the relevant programme deadline.
