- Be a citizen of a country other than the United States, or hold a non-immigrant visa if residing in the United States.
- Hold an academic degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree, completed by September 30, 2026.
- Intend to pursue the proposed academic plan on a full-time basis during the fellowship year.
- Intend to return to their home country after completing their studies to pursue a professional career.
- Demonstrate proficiency in English through one of the required forms of evidence.
- Master’s and first professional degree applicants must have applied to an accredited institution by September 30, 2026 and indicate the institution in their fellowship application.
- Doctoral applicants must be pursuing a research-based doctorate such as a PhD or EdD.
- Postdoctoral applicants must provide proof of a qualifying doctorate or MFA and indicate where they will conduct their research.
Master’s and first professional degree programs may include degrees such as J.D., M.F.A., L.L.M., M.Arch., and qualifying medical degrees. Certificates, associate degrees, and undergraduate programs are not eligible.
