    Collaboration for Joint Degree Programme

This significant academic partnership results from a strategic visit to the Roslin Institute and the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies within the University of Edinburgh.

The visiting delegation from ABU included the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, and the Director of the Division of Agricultural Colleges (DAC), Prof. Musa Abdullahi Mahadi.

While at the University of Edinburgh, Prof. Bala engaged in a joint meeting with

    • Prof. Geoff Simm, Director of the Global Academy of Agriculture and Food Systems
    • Prof. Karen Smyth, Director of the Centre for Supporting Evidence-Based Interventions in Livestock
    • Dr Oluyinka Opoola from the Centre for Tropical Livestock Genetics and Health.

The Vice-Chancellor’s team was also joined by Dr Usman Ibrahim and Dr Emmanuel Opoola, both from the Division of Agricultural Colleges (DAC) at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

    Strengthening Global Academic Ties

The planned joint degree programme is a testament to the increasingly global nature of higher education and the mutual benefits of international academic collaboration.

It aims to bring together the respective strengths of the two universities in an enriching and diverse learning environment.

The proposed joint degree will offer students a unique opportunity to gain internationally recognized qualifications and the unparalleled experience of studying in two different cultural and academic settings.

The capacity development programmes planned alongside the joint degree will also help to foster the professional and personal growth of faculty members and students from both universities, enhancing their ability to contribute to their respective fields.

    Looking Forward

The ongoing collaboration between ABU and the University of Edinburgh heralds a new era of international cooperation in higher education, with promising implications for the academic communities of both institutions.

This partnership aims to create an inclusive, diverse, and innovative learning environment that prepares students to thrive in a rapidly globalizing world.
