Thompson Engineering was formed in 1953 to provide quality assurance for construction projects related to industrial, infrastructure, and community development.
We supported the engineering and construction industry as a drilling, materials testing, construction inspection, and chemistry laboratory firm.
Our early years were building blocks that let us get our feet wet, literally, performing services along the Gulf Coast’s rivers, bayous, and streams.
The IT Technician’s primary role is to support daily operations, end-user support, and some server management.
Essential Functions
- Install and configure hardware and software components.
- End user computer imaging, configuration, and setup.
- Provide help desk support to end users to troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly and efficiently.
- Open and/or close trouble tickets on each call received.
- Escalate problems and requests as necessary to ensure a positive resolution.
- Work closely with members of the IT team to troubleshoot network and systems issues as well as respond to potential cyber threats.
- Create, modify and/or delete user and e-mail accounts
- Perform routine maintenance on various IT equipment.
- Mobile device support; tablets, smartphones, etc.
- Cabling installation and termination
- Maintain an increasing level of proficiency in hardware, software, networking, and other technologies supported by the IT department.
- Document and follow established procedures and user guides.
Other Responsibilities
Minimum Requirements
- College diploma or equivalent.
- 1-3 years of experience in a similar role.
- Hands-on hardware experience and troubleshooting systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows operating systems.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office applications.
- Understanding of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
- Microsoft Cloud technology experience is a plus.
- Effective interpersonal skills and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Strong customer-service orientation.
- Ability to multi-task in a dynamic work environment.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting for extended periods of time.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, hand and power tools, and to handle other computer components.
- Lifting and transporting heavy to moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals of up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule and overtime as needed.
- Occasional after-hours, weekends, and overnight travel to branch offices.
