Assisting in implementing program components according to Head Start performance standards to support the social, physical, intellectual, creative, and emotional development of children utilizing developmentally appropriate practices.
Job Role
- Assists in maintaining a safe, nurturing, and healthy atmosphere, which may include assisting students with social skill development and personal hygiene
- Works in areas other than the classroom, i.e
- Uses special skills (i.e., sign language, transliterating, advanced computer training) to assist in two-way communication between the teacher and the student
- Participates in the screening, observation, and documentation of children
- Makes home visits with the teacher as required or requested and documents them as requested
- Communicate with families to facilitate positive interaction with the program awareness of the child’s needs and development, how the activities of the program promote positive development, and their roles in the child’s overall education and development
- Assists with the supervision of all assigned volunteers in the classroom
- Share pertinent information with family services/case management staff to ensure coordinated services that meet the needs of individual children and families.
- Work cooperatively with students, teachers, and parents
- Enforce all school rules
- Utilize appropriate judgment in deciding when to contact a licensed professional
- Follow procedures as outlined by school board policy, the school principal, or designee
- Keep confidence at all times

- Programs in a public school environment and the unique needs of students
- Work cooperatively with students, teachers, and parents

Qualifications
- Bilingual preferred
- Former and/or current Head Start Parents preferred
- Child Development Associate (CDA) required
