NANS, led by Comrade Afeez Babatunde Akinteye, the Vice President of External Affairs, has urged JAMB to decentralize the registration process of Direct entry admission across Nigeria.
According to NANS, the move would minimize the challenges and risks faced by students traveling between states and communities for admissions registration.
The student body expressed condolences to the family of an applicant Miss Mahasin Idrees, who lost her life tragically while returning to Zaria from Kaduna in a car accident after completion of her direct entry registration.
As technology can be enhanced to enable students to register from any location, Akinteye advised.
The student’s need to embark on long, hazardous journeys will be reduced, and thus enhancing their safety will be enhanced.
Akinteye highlighted the issues faced by applicants while traveling for registration in the state capitals, including the insecurity across the country and the risk encountered.
Moreover, there are often delays in the registration process at the JAMB offices because of the overwhelming multiple applicants.
To address these concerns, NANS has implored Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, to use public tertiary institutions’ ICT centers better.
Conclusion
NANS is advocating for the decentralization of direct entry registration, which will ensure the safety of applicants and increase accessibility.
By leveraging existing resources and technology, JAMB can create a secure and more efficient registration process for students across Nigeria.
