The APC candidate and former Lagos state governor, Bola Tinubu, was announced as the presidential election winner on February 25, 2023. On Sunday, February 26, 2023, at precisely 4.10 am, in Abuja by the INEC
With his victory, Tinubu has become Nigeria’s fifth elected president since 1999 and its 16th president since its independence in 1960. With 8,794,726 votes cast, he won the presidential election on his first try.
This was sufficient to overcome his closest rivals, PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar (6,984,520 votes) and Peter Obi (6,101,533 votes) of the Labour Party.
With 1,496,687 votes, Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate for the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), placed in a distant fourth place.
Ninety-three million four hundred sixty-nine thousand eight (93,469,008 ) people were accredited voters, while 25,286,616 people were registered voters, according to INEC.
Twenty-four million twenty-five thousand nine hundred forty (24,025,940) votes were cast, while 939,278 were invalid. Twenty-four million nine hundred sixty-five thousand two hundred eighteen (24,965,218 ) votes were cast.
Tinubu thanked the public for their support and claimed to be “profoundly humbled” in his acceptance speech. According to him, with Nigerians’ support, he will fulfill a promise that he stands for.
Tinubu also triumphed in the elections in 13 states which include Rivers, Borno, Jigawa, Zamfara, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo, and Ogun states,
Atiku won in nine states Including the states of Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Kaduna, Gombe, Yobe, Bauchi, Adamawa, Taraba, Osun, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa,
Edo, Cross River, Delta, Lagos, Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Imo, Ebonyi, Nasarawa, Anambra, Abia, and Enugu were among the 12 states in which Obi triumphed.
Just the state of Kano did Kwankwaso win.
Footage from the Nigerian capital of Abuja showed Tinubu’s supporters jubilantly applauding their candidate’s victory.
