    How To Study In Canada

    To study in Canada, you must meet the requirements along with the timeline. Canada is one of the best places in the world to live, which suits your lifestyle and budget.

    The cost of living and tuition fees for international students in Canada is lower than in other countries like the United States of America.

    A degree from Canada is valued all around the world.  As a student, you will experience an exciting campus lifestyle, world-class technology, and modern amenities. Also, higher studies in Canada provide the easiest way to get a Permanent Residency.

    Steps for Study in Canada

    Research Your Options

    This is a crucial move in your career journey of study in Canada. To be realistic and flexible, you should focus on your higher education goal.

    Decide what you want to study, where you want to live, overall cost, various opportunities, and kind of educational, social, and cultural experience.

    Select Universities

    There are numerous universities and various courses available to study in Canada. Select several universities (about 10 universities should do) & study programs that meet your requirement and wish to apply to.

    Prepare for Entrance

    Prepare for standardized tests like TOEFL/GRE/GMAT/IELTS etc., based on the requirements of the universities & colleges. Register for these tests in advance.

    While applying for the tests, you should also plan for before time in case you need to retake the test. The tests should be done before September.

    Finance your study

    Ensure that you have the money ready for your entire stay for study in Canada, along with accommodation, local travel, food, clothes, and other miscellaneous expenses. Prepare how you will finance your studies – personal savings, education loans, student scholarships, or assistantship.

    Apply to the University

    Contact each university directly for the admission requirements. Each Canadian university has its admission requirements.

    Arrange all necessary documents for university application. Prepare the applications well before deadlines and send them.

    Confirm Admission

    Once you get your acceptance letters or i20 from the universities you have applied to, decide which university you would like to study at.

    Inform the universities that have sent you acceptance letters of your decision. Pay a non-refundable deposit to the university you have decided on to confirm your admission.

    Check Accommodation option

    Check out accommodation options. Speak to your friends, relatives, and acquaintances in the city you will visit. Apply for and confirm your accommodation.

    It would be a good idea to contact the Indian Student Body at the university you will be attending. They would also be able to help you out with accommodation options.

    Get Student Visa

    Once you get admission confirmation, you can apply for your student visa. Get all your papers in order before you go to the consulate.

    It would be a good idea to talk to students who have already got a visa for their experiences and valuable tips.

    Prepare for Departure

    You are almost done with your study in Canada preparation. Decide and prepare for all your important things, like documents, airline tickets, insurance, accommodation, university fees, finances, expenses, bag pack & other miscellaneous.

    Ongoing support

    One of the most important pieces is to talk to the university and international student advisers at your university of choice throughout this process.

    Give them details of your travel schedule so they can send somebody to receive you at the airport. It will make your transition as smooth as possible.

    REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION

    1. Completed application form;
    2. The original letter of acceptance from the university;
    3. A valid passport/travel document allows you to return to your home country. If you live in the U.S.A., this is not necessary;
    4. Two recent passport-size photographs, with specifications of name and date of birth on the back;
    5. Proof of financial support during your studies that represent: tuition fee + 833 CAD/month (for all provinces, except Quebec) or tuition fee + 917 CAD/month (Quebec);
    6. A letter of explanation;
    7. If you intend to study in Quebec, you will also need a Certificate, English and French translations for your document, a statement from the translator, and a certified copy of the original documents;
    8. Proof that you paid the study permit fee (150 CAD).

    Language Requirements

    Unless you come from an English-speaking country, Canadian universities will require you to submit proof of English language proficiency. Accepted language tests are:

    • IELTS
    • Cambridge English: Advanced
    • TOEFL

    Proof of your language skills is not included in the required documents for a Canadian student visa. But it is a good idea to have proof of English ability, just in case.

    Biometrics appointment and interview

    Depending on the requirements of your country, you might have to show up at a Visa Application Centre in your country to have your biometrics taken. The biometric fee is 85 CAD. This fee is in addition to the regular visa fee. Some countries are exempted from biometrics visits, so they likely won’t need to visit an application center.

    Conclusion

    Canada is a beautiful and rich country with great people and an amazing history. Using a few tips above, you can make your time up north much better.
