About the North Dakota State University Scholarship
The research assistantship is supervised by Dr. Dillon Fogarty in the School of Natural Resource Sciences at North Dakota State University.
The selected student will investigate how forage production responds to juniper removal in North Dakota’s Badlands. The project is funded by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the North Dakota Natural Resources Trust.
The successful applicant will work alongside graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, research specialists, and faculty members while leading their own thesis project. There will also be opportunities to develop additional research questions related to the project.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Have a strong work ethic and demonstrate professionalism.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Be physically able to lift approximately 50 lbs (23 kg) and walk more than 2 miles over rough terrain.
- Be comfortable interacting with ranchers and conservation professionals.
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Have experience with plant identification, vegetation sampling in rangelands, and scientific writing.
- Be prepared to provide samples of written work if requested during the interview process.
