About the Bridgewater State University Scholarship
The scholarship offers a funded Graduate Research Assistantship in the Surasinghe Lab within the Department of Biological Sciences at Bridgewater State University, Massachusetts.
The successful applicant will contribute to a National Science Foundation (NSF) Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Diseases (EEID) project investigating urban wildlife ecology, host-vector interactions, and tick-borne disease risks across southeastern Massachusetts.
As part of the programme, the student will complete an M.S. thesis focusing on urban wildlife ecology, including wildlife occurrence, habitat use, species abundance, and community dynamics across urban and peri-urban environments.
The research involves the use of camera traps, Audiomoth (ARU) recordings, environmental data, landscape variables, and quantitative ecological models to understand how urbanization influences wildlife populations and disease ecology.

Eligibility Criteria

- Quantitative Ecology

- Or another closely related discipline.
- Have experience with one or more of the following:
- Field research
- Camera traps
- Automated Recording Units (ARUs)
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- R programming
- Statistical modeling.
- Be organized, dependable, and willing to conduct fieldwork under varying environmental conditions.
- Demonstrate an interest in developing both field and analytical research skills.
