    DAAD Leadership for Africa Scholarship Programme 2025/2026 | Shape Your Future In Germany

    DAAD “Leadership for Africa” Scholarship Programme application for 2026 is now open.

    The Programme aims to support the academic advancement and qualification of national scholars and young refugees from Chad, DR Congo, Togo, Niger and Nigeria at higher education institutions in Germany.

    The Objective of the Programme

    In times of displacement and conflicts in various African countries, this Programme intends to contribute to developing education in the home countries of future leaders.

    “Leadership for Africa” offers scholarships in Germany for Master’s studies, excluding Medicine, Law, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry, Arts, Dentistry and Architecture.

    DAAD Leadership for Africa Scholarship Benefits

    The scholarship includes the following:

    • Six months German language course in Germany before the university studies commence
    • Tuition-free M.Sc. or M.A degree programme at a state or public-recognized university in Germany starting in winter term 2026 (September/October 2026)
    • Mandatory additional training programme LEAD!

    DAAD Leadership for Africa Scholarship Eligibility Criteria


    The Programme targets two groups:

    Highly qualified refugees who fulfil the qualifications for Master’s studies in Germany and hold refugee status.

    Applicants must fulfil the following conditions:

    • Before April 2026, Holding refugee status in their host countries.
    • The country of asylum must be Nigeria, Togo, Chad, DR Congo, or Niger.
    • During the time of application, the applicant must have completed Bachelor’s degree.
    • Highly qualified graduates from Chad, Niger, DR Congo, Togo or Nigeria for master studies in Germany, and fulfil the necessary qualifications.

    Applicants must fulfil the following conditions:

    • Citizenship of either Chad, Togo, DR Congo, Nigeria or Niger.
    • Country of residence is Chad, DR Congo, Togo, Nigeria, and Niger.
    • At the time of application, you must have completed Bachelor’s degree.
    • DAAD Leadership for Africa Scholarship Application Process
    • At the DAAD portal, all documents must be uploaded. Incomplete applications will be formally rejected and excluded from the process application.
    • The following documents in a non-certified form may be scanned and on the DAAD portal uploaded.
    • You must include English or German translations if you submit documents in your national language.DAAD application form online duly completed (available on the DAAD portal)
    • Using the European Specimen form, Curriculum vitae (max. three pages).
    • Letter of Motivation (1-3 pages) containing a specific description of your professional/ academic and personal reasons for the study project planned.
    • DAAD Form “Study course profile” duly completed (Precisely 3 Master’s programmes). Note: DAAD does not consider master programmes charging tuition fees.
    • Applicants with a Master’s degree or completing one must fill in the form “Additional Master’s Degree” and provide a well-justified explanation.
    • Necessary language skills proof for the desired Master’s programmes.
    • Certificate of university degree indicating final grade(s), including transcripts of records for all study years with individual grades and grading system explanation.
    • Copies of passport/national identification card and other documents containing information about you and your current residence status.
    • For refugees: Refugee ID-Card and UNHCR registration or official proof of asylum by authorities or government.

    Optional

    Other relevant documents (e.g., certificates of employment/internship, proof of former scholarships, extracurricular engagement, recommendation letters, (expired) admissions to a German master programme).
