The Brookings Institution invites applications from scholars worldwide for Echidna Global Scholars Program 2025– an opportunity to pursue a fully funded research project of four to six months at Brookings in the USA.
The Center for Universal Education (CUE) of the Brookings Institution is the host institution for the visiting fellowship known as the Echidna Global Scholars Program.
To help the scholars make a difference when they return to their home countries, the Program is structured into two primary sections: leadership training and research on global education challenges.
The Program aims to build the research and analytical skills of NGO leaders and academics with substantial experience and ties to developing countries.

Qualifications and Requirements
- The Program chooses professionals with extensive connections to and experience in the Global South, as well as a clear intention to return there after finishing their residence at Brookings.
- Candidates must be passionate about and have a track record of dedication to enhancing learning opportunities and life outcomes for girls, young women, and persons who identify as gender non-conforming in and through education.
- With a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in either research/academic, non-government and civil society, government, or business, applicants should have a background in education, development, economics, or a similar field.
- Education: A master’s degree is required, but a PhD or research background is recommended.
- Knowledge/Skills Strong analytical and writing abilities are necessary. The best candidates will be deeply knowledgeable about gender issues and educational growth.
Echidna Global Scholars Program 2025| Benefits
Applicants selected for the fellowship will receive the following;
- A stipend totalling USD 22,500 to support living costs during the pre-residency and residency periods (subject to U.S. tax withholding and reporting).
- In addition, CUE will cover the costs associated with the visa process, single-occupancy housing for the three-and-a-half-month residency period, round-trip travel expenses, and a limited health insurance plan.
Please note that this position is a short-term full-time resident fellowship at Brookings (it is not an employee position).
