This is to notify the general public that postgraduate students interested in pursuing Canon Collins Trust Scholarships at the host institution, Canon Collins Trust, are encouraged to apply.
For the next three years, they will be offering scholarships only to those studying in three areas:
- Justice: which includes Law, Economics, Politics and the Environment
- Education: policy and practice
- Humanities: which includes Literature, History, Anthropology and the Arts
Canon Collins Trust Scholarship Benefits
- The majority of prizes will be worth R70,000 for each year of study at the Master’s and PhD levels. Up to R100,000 per year may be awarded in rare instances. They support both full-time and part-time study and will consider applications from individuals who prefer to study via distance learning.
- An annual conference for existing scholars is also organised, as are many smaller events throughout the year. Scholarship recipients are expected to participate in these activities as well as to join and contribute to the Canon Collins Scholarship network.
- Eligible applicants will be considered automatically for the following named scholarships:

- Sol Plaatje Canon Collins Scholarships

Eligibility for Canon Collins Trust Scholarships
- Applicants must be citizens of one of the following countries or have refugee status in one of them: Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe are among the countries involved.
- Be a regular resident of one of the aforementioned nations;
- Have a strong first degree (second class, upper division, or similar) or be about to graduate in the year of application;
- Be enrolled or apply to a South African university;
- Applications for courses that do not fall under the categories listed above (for example, MBAs, medical sciences, sports sciences, and applied sciences) will be refused.
