Nancy Susan Reynolds researchers need to be innovative leaders who can influence people in ways that will likely benefit society in addition to being good students and potential researchers.
They will have won exceptional distinctions in the classroom and elsewhere. Successful candidates chose the most difficult curriculum.
They have obtained grade point averages and standardized test results that, if reported, put them in the top percentage of their peers.
Reynolds Scholars have also frequently excelled in extracurricular activities and received local, state, or national acclaim for their passions.
Though criteria differ slightly, all scholarship programs recognize extraordinary achievement, leadership, and talent. Recipients embody those qualities that have led their predecessors since 1986.

Since 1982, up to five recipients of the Reynolds Scholarship have been selected each year.
Each Reynolds Scholarship includes $3,400 for personal expenses in addition to the annual tuition, board, and lodging charges.
Reynolds Scholars are encouraged to apply for up to $5,000 for initiatives, including research, study, or travel, during the three summers between their first and final year.
Most scholarships (including the full-cost Signature Scholarships) do not require a separate merit-based application.
Instead, students need only submit a complete application for undergraduate admissions by November 15. Finalists for scholarships that require more comprehensive interviews or auditions will be notified by the end of March.
