The National Universities Commission (NUC) has issued a list of universities in Nigeria that have been permitted to operate Distance Learning Centres.

ODL indicates that students should not be obliged to attend classes or have face-to-face contact unless there are compelling reasons to do so. Exams, periodic facilitation, and practicum are examples of such activities.
The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), with 72 study/resource centres nationwide, is currently the only Uni-mode university mandated for Open and Distance Learning in university education delivery.
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved seventeen (17) universities which may be regarded as dual-mode universities with limited capacity to deliver degree programmes by open and distance learning (ODL) in addition to the conventional face-to-face mode.
