Entrance Scholarships
The criteria for entrance scholarship at the University of Algoma.
- International students considered for the scholarship must have a temporary resident visa at most by their first class.
- All students must pay the international differential fee, including second-degree students, college diploma graduates, university transfers, and college transfer students, to be eligible for the Entrance Scholarship.
- International scholarships shall not be postponed under any circumstances.
American citizens are not eligible for these scholarships since they are already eligible for a significant tuition discount.

The Chancellor’s Award Scholarship
The Chancellor’s Award is a $5,000 annual grant for overseas students entering their first year at Algoma University. A student’s past academic record must have a minimum A+ grade point average (or country equivalent).
Eligible candidates must meet the following language requirements at admission:
- Cambridge Assessment of English – 185 overall
- TOEFL – 560 (85 internet-based)
- IELTS – total score of 7.0
- Duolingo Test of English (DTE) – 125
- Pearson Test of English (Academic) – 65
This scholarship can span a total of three years. Candidates must maintain an average of 80% on previous fall/winter courses with no yearly failures.

OSSTF – District 35 AUSS International Scholarship
The Algoma University Staff Association gives one award to the international student with the greatest overall GPA enrolled full-time at Algoma University. There is no need to apply. This award cannot be renewed.
Algoma University IELTS Requirement
International students who have not completed their final three years of full-time English studies in a country where English is an official language are required to take a language competency test.
- A TOEFL score of 550 on paper, 213 on computer, or 79-80 on the internet is required.
- A minimum IELTS score of 6.0 is necessary in each band and overall.
- CAEL minimum score of 60 CANPTE (Pearson Test of English) 4.5063
Students who lack proof of English proficiency or do not meet the minimum requirements can enroll in Algoma University’s English for Academic Purposes Program (EAPP) before beginning their academic courses.
