In honour of Izaak Walton Killam, the Killam Doctoral Scholarship and Prize Programmes were created through the will of his wife, Dorothy J. Killam, and donations made during her lifetime.

Killam Doctoral Scholarship

Their main objective is to support the Canada Council for the Arts and five Canadian universities that offer advanced study and research.

An unbalanced person should not be a Killam scholar. Intelligent distinction should be based on moral character.

The most prominent rewards available to graduate students at UBC are the Killam Doctoral Scholarships. In the Affiliated Fellowships competition, the top doctorate candidates receive about 15 to 20 grants yearly.

Currently, the Killam Doctoral Scholarship offers a $30,000 annual stipend for two years and a $2,000 allowance for research-related travel during the two years of the scholarship*.
