    The University of Waterloo Scholarship 2025/2026 provides full funding to international students.

    Australia Research Training Program

    This grant is available for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral study. The scholarship at Waterloo University is worth up to $10,000.

    To support Canadian and international students, the University of Waterloo is giving the David Johnston-Lebovic Foundation International Experience Awards to highly successful candidates.

    About the University of Waterloo Scholarships

    This is a full-time program open to students from all over the world who want to study in any undergraduate or graduate degree program offered by the Waterloo Faculty.

    Based on the Faculty’s prize allocation, qualified students will be nominated. As indicated by their application for admission to the graduate program, academic excellence will be used to select students.

    Scholarship Coverage

    The University of Waterloo Scholarships provide the following benefits to the recipient:

    • The David Johnston-Lebovic Foundation International Programme Awards will range from $2,500 to $5,000 for a one-term academic program and up to $10,000 for a two-term employment or volunteer adventure.
    • The International Master’s Award of Excellence is worth $2,500 every term for a total of six periods.

    Criteria for Eligibility

    To be eligible for the University of Waterloo Scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Languages required: English
    • All countries in the world are eligible.
    • Candidates with strong academic credentials (often a minimum 70% average at the undergraduate level and a minimum 75% average at the graduate level) can apply for these scholarships.
    • Full-time undergraduate and graduate students from any faculty who want to participate in an international experience in Israel, such as a minimally paid or volunteer international co-op work placement, a volunteer placement, an academic exchange, or a study term related to academic requirements, must apply.
    • International students registered full-time and with a valid Canadian study permit are charged international tuition rates.
    • Typically awarded to students enrolled in research-based programs (thesis or major research paper).
    • It is generally only offered to students starting their first term of study (term 1.0).
    • Students must demonstrate academic excellence using the Faculty’s criteria.
    • Students must meet their program’s academic progress standards and have no special probationary admission requirements.
    • This award may be combined with other internal or external scholarships (e.g., UW Graduate Scholarship, OGS, and so on). Scholarships are not the same as sponsorship; see the following item.
    • Students should not normally receive foreign government or agency sponsorship (e.g., China Scholarship Council, Libyan funding, etc.) simultaneously, nor should they be fully or partially self-funded more than the Faculty’s minimal levels of assistance.
    • Students who have been grandfathered under the current IMSA program are not eligible to be considered for an IMAE; however, a student who has already been given an IMSA for a previously completed master’s degree may be nominated for an IMAE.
    • Students will be automatically eligible for this award based on their admissions application. Departments and/or faculties shall determine their internal selection process based on eligibility criteria and allocation.
    • As needed, faculties may impose stricter eligibility criteria.

    How to Apply for the University of Waterloo Scholarships?

    Please follow the steps below to apply for the David Johnston-Lebovic Foundation International Experience Award:

    • Candidates must enroll in undergraduate and graduate degree programs at the university. Candidates can view the application on their forms pages after they have been admitted.
    • Applicants must include a personal statement that refers to the application form. All applicants must present evidence of their English language skills to achieve the minimum admission standards.

    To apply for the International Master’s Award of Excellence scholarship, please follow the steps below:

    • Students will be considered for this award automatically based on their admission application; thus, no separate scholarship application is required.
    • Departments and/or faculties will select and nominate students for the scholarship.
