O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Agricultural & Bio-Environmental Engineering include Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- Mathematics
- English Language
- Physics and any two of the following: Biology/Agricultural Science
- Chemistry
- Technical Drawing
- Basic Electronics/Basic Electricity
- Auto Mechanics
- Metal Work
- Further Mathematics
- Food and Nutrition
- Geography
The optional group reflects the breadth of the course, pairing agricultural and biological subjects with workshop papers such as Auto Mechanics, Metal Work and Basic Electricity.
Chemistry sits in that group rather than among the named credits, so it is not compulsory at O Level despite the engineering content of the programme.
Food and Nutrition and Geography also count, which suits candidates whose interest is on the agricultural rather than the engineering side.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Physics/Technical Drawing
- Chemistry or any two Science Subjects
On the JAMB form English Language and Mathematics are fixed, the third paper is Physics or Technical Drawing, and the fourth is Chemistry or another science subject.

Why Chemistry Is Optional at YABATECH Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Engineering
Mathematics, English Language and Physics are the three named credits, which leaves two places to fill from a list that mixes agricultural, biological and workshop subjects.
Chemistry appears in that optional group rather than as a requirement, which is unusual for an engineering programme. On the JAMB form it returns as one of the four papers. Clear 150 in JAMB for the 2026/2027 session.
