    Oxford/Reuters Institute Journalism Fellowships

    Based at the University of Oxford, the Reuters Institute offers a limited number of Journalist Fellowships each year to those who apply for the Oxford/Reuters Institute Journalism Fellowships 2026 for Journalists in African & Developing Countries.

    Oxford/Reuters Institute Journalism Fellowships

    These fully-funded fellowships give working journalists worldwide a chance to learn more about a subject that is important to them and the media business as a whole before returning to newsrooms.

    The Fellowships allow participants to connect with other journalists worldwide, take a break from the daily stress of deadlines, and investigate the most important challenges facing the sector with input from top practitioners and experts.

    You don’t need to identify the specific funding source you are looking for because we will choose one for you based on your country of origin and research idea.

    Eligibility for Reuters Institute Journalism Fellowships

    • You must have at least five years of professional journalism experience—or, in exceptional circumstances, be able to show a comparable degree of expertise—to be eligible for a Fellowship.
    • Your ability to write in English at a publishable level will enable you to participate in the fellowship and submit articles as needed. If English is not your first language, please provide adequate proof (this is an actual certificate given by the appropriate agency, no older than two years) that you are at an adequate standard.

    Most journalist fellowships are fully financed and include housing and living expenses. There are certain chances for self-funded candidates. Only candidates who are employees of the sponsoring organisation are eligible for such fellowships.
