Oituntun Initiative in Diaspora (OID) accepts entries for its 2025 Seyi Makinde Annual Essay Competition from Oyo State residents and natives enrolled in any Nigerian university.
The Seyi Makinde Annual Essay Competition was established by Omituntun Initiative in the Diaspora (OID) with the intention of empowering and involving teenagers in public dialogue, notably about the Seyi Makinde-led government’sgovernment’s administration.
Seyi Makinde Essay Competition Topics
Entrants can only write one of the following essays:
Strengthening transparency, inclusiveness, and accountability for peaceful and sustainable development in Oyo State.
OR
Advancing the frontiers of possibilities for a safe, secured, and prosperous Oyo State through Citizen’sCitizen’s active participation in governance processes.
OR
Re-engineering the Oyo State energy system through the newly proposed development and implementation of Oyo State master gas plan: Expectations, Possibilities, and Benefits.

Seyi Makinde Essay Competition Prizes
The winning piece will receive N200,000, while the second and third places will receive N150,000 and N100,000, respectively. The top 20 participants will be sponsored for digital skills vocational training, and the top participants will be recognized at an OID event.
Seyi Makinde Essay Competition Eligibility & Requirements
- A single topic may be written about by each participant.
- Open to inhabitants or natives of Oyo State who are enrolled in any Nigerian institution of higher learning and who are between the ages of 18 and 35.
- The essay must be formatted in Microsoft Word and written in English.
- The word count for entries must be between 800 and 1000 words (bibliography and references are not included).
- Entries must be written in Times New Roman, 12-point, double-spaced, and on a certain number of pages.
- Any trace of plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification.
- Participants must show identification from their school and evidence of residency.
- The entries should include names and contact information.
- Entrants must be imaginative and use real-world examples from Oyo State’sState’s completed or continuing infrastructure projects.
- Points will be given for thorough study and comprehension of the subject, as well as for originality, ingenuity, thorough investigation, and practical application.
