Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has ordered the management of ABSU to immediately cancel the purported school fee increase announced by the university management on Monday, April 17, 2024.
The directive was stated by Onyebuchi Ememanka, media aide to the governor, on Monday evening, April 17 2024.
The statement ordered an immediate cancelation of the fee, which was increased by 350% as described as “unacceptable.”
The governor noted that it is becoming highly challenging for the university. There is a challenge for the university to operate under the current fiscal regime.
Children of people with low incomes in the state should be allowed to access tertiary education. The school management should understand and ensure this.
Before conclusion on any hike in school fees, the university management should engage with all relevant stakeholders in the community and have robust.
There will be support from the state government with subventions as assured.
