The University of Ottawa has announced the University of Ottawa Entrance & Excellence Scholarship 2024 for African Students who which to Study English.

The Entrance and excellence scholarship provides incoming students with a four-year scholarship to cover the partial cost of their university tuition.

About the University of Ottawa Entrance & Excellence Scholarship

The University of Ottawa is proud of its international student body’s diversity.

This renewable scholarship is available to international students who are citizens of African countries, who are admitted in the Fall 2024 term (September start date) or later,

who study in English and who enroll in one of the specified undergraduate programs in the faculties of Engineering, Science, or Social Sciences.

This substantial financial commitment to their education cuts their tuition expenses by $17,500 to $25,000 for excellence scholarships and $12,000 to $20,000 for admission scholarships, depending on the program annually.

All eligible students for this scholarship will get it automatically upon enrollment. It will be applied to their tuition expenses directly.

The Entrance and Excellence scholarships for African Students Studying English cannot be combined.

The scholarship program is among the most generous in the country. It recognizes not only your pre-university academic achievements but also your achievements during each term of full-time university study.

The new scholarship will provide African students studying in English with access to various pilot programs across three faculties at a greatly reduced tuition rate.

Eligibility for the University of Ottawa Entrance & Excellence Scholarship

All qualifying students are considered for this prize and will be contacted when they are accepted.

Although no application is necessary for this award, beneficiaries must provide proof of citizenship in an African country or territory before receiving their first instalment.

The candidates must:

  • Be an international student with a valid study permit;
  • Having citizenship in one of the African countries
  • Be a first-year student in one of the following undergraduate programs offered in English or with a French Immersion option:
    • Engineering: Civil engineering and chemical engineering
    • Social sciences: Sociology; Anthropology; International Development and Globalization; Conflict Studies; Public Administration
    • Sciences: All programs except Honours BSc in Biochemistry/BASc in Chemical Engineering, Honours BSc in Physics/BASc in Electrical Engineering, and Honours BSc in Ophthalmic Medical Technology
  • Be full-time students and
  • To be eligible for the Entrance Scholarship, you must have an admission average of 89.99% or below when converted to our grading scale.
  • When adjusted to our grading scale, you must have an admission average of at least 90% for the Excellence scholarship.

How to Apply for the University of Ottawa Entrance & Excellence Scholarship

To be considered for the Access Bank Entry-level Graduate Program, the following criteria must be reached;

  • First, the student has to apply here.
  • The University would then receive the application and generate a Student Number, which the prospective student would use to connect to the university’s portal and submit their results and documents for review.
  • Following a successful assessment, students will be granted a conditional admission offer, which may include a scholarship based on their grade point average.
  • The deadline for all 2024 nominations is 5:00 p.m. Central Time on or before March 31, 2024.
