About Shell Nigeria
Shell began business in Nigeria in 1937 as Shell D’Arcy and was given an exploration license.
In 1956, Shell Nigeria uncovered the first commercial crude oil field at Oloibiri in the Niger Delta and started exporting crude oil in 1958.
Before the discovery of crude oil, Nigeria strongly depended on agricultural exports to other countries to support its economy. Nigerians thought that Shell Company was looking for palm oil.
The Shell Petroleum Development Company(SPDC) is the oldest energy company in Nigeria and has a long-term commitment to the country, its people, and the economy.
Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) is Nigeria’s largest fossil fuel company, which operates over 6,000 kilometers (3,700 mi) of pipelines and flowlines, 87 flow stations, eight natural gas plants, and more than 1,000 producing wells.
It operated largely onshore on dry land or in the mangrove swamp. As one of the world’s leading energy companies, Shell plays a pivotal role in helping to meet the world’s energy demand in economically, environmentally, and socially responsible ways.
