UNIMED Receives Full Accreditation from MDCN

Nigeria’s Medical and Dental Council has given the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, full accreditation (MDCN) to train qualified medical doctors.

Every five years, the council might extend its approval with the condition that the MBBS program continues to advance.

Temitope Oluwatayo, the university’s public relations officer, said the council visited the institution in 2022 to evaluate the resources available for educating MBBS students and gave its clearance after doing so.

In a letter to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, MDCN’s Registrar, Dr. Tajudeen Sanusi, announced the council’s preliminary approval.

The accreditation can be renewed every five years as long as the MBBS program shows ongoing improvement.

With this breakthrough, MBBS students at UNIMED who are in their last year of the program can now take their final professional exam and be admitted to the medical council.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, has stated that the institution’s focus is to succeed in accreditation processes and be an institution grounded in global best practices.

Also, the school should be a center of excellence in medical education and research that improves health and well-being on a national and international level.
