- Not having finished a doctoral programme that lasted longer than 20 months.
- Have completed the previous two years of full-time study with a first-class average—or the equivalent—as decided by your school. Candidates are urged to contact the school to learn what constitutes a first-class GPA and other requirements.
- They cannot pursue or complete a doctoral degree if they now possess or formerly held a doctoral-level scholarship or fellowship from CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC.
Eligibility of Degree Programs
Only degree programmes with a major research component are eligible for doctoral awards.
The research component must be a programme requirement and is defined as significant, independent research that results in a dissertation, significant scholarly publication, performance, recital, or exhibit that has been merit reviewed at the institutional level.
Clinically focused programmes of study, such as clinical psychology, are also good programmes if they include a sizable amount of the research mentioned above.
