Mathematics is the subject where past questions pay off most, because the topics barely move from year to year. Work through enough old papers and you start recognising question types on sight, which is exactly what you need when the clock is running.
This page covers how to practise effectively, and gives you a free timed test to measure yourself against.

Sit a timed paper free
Our WAEC CBT practice test covers Mathematics alongside 14 other subjects, with automatic scoring so you can see where the marks went. Timing yourself matters here more than in almost any other paper.
The topics that keep returning
Across almost every session you will find number bases, indices and logarithms, simultaneous and quadratic equations, mensuration, trigonometry, statistics and probability. These carry a large share of the marks and reward steady practice far more than last-minute cramming.
If your time is short, work through these before anything else. Mastering six recurring topics beats a shallow pass over the whole syllabus.
Show your working
In the theory paper, method marks are awarded even when the final answer is wrong. Candidates who jump straight to a result lose marks they had already earned, which is one of the most avoidable losses in the whole exam.
- Write each step on its own line rather than crowding the margin.
- State the formula before substituting values into it.
- Keep units and significant figures consistent throughout.
- Attempt every part. A partial answer still scores.
How far back to practise
Mathematics is the exception to the five-year rule. Papers from a decade or more ago remain useful because the question style changes so little, though you should still check anything unfamiliar against the current syllabus.
Official syllabus and materials
WAEC holds the copyright to its papers. The current Mathematics syllabus comes from the West African Examinations Council at waecnigeria.org, and approved revision texts are available through accredited bookshops.
Measure yourself this week
Sit one full timed paper without stopping, then mark it strictly. The questions you got wrong are your revision list, and they are worth more than any general study plan.
