This is to inform the general public and all Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) aspirants that the Department of Accountancy admission requirements has been published.
The requirements cover the O Level credits, the four JAMB papers and the minimum UTME score. Principles of Accounts is an option on both lists rather than a requirement on either.

O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Accountancy include Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- English Language (not Literature in English)
- Mathematics and any three subjects from the following:
- Economics/Commerce
- Business Methods
- Principles of Accounts
- Literature in English
- Geography
- Office Practice
- Government
- Biology/Agricultural Science
- Chemistry
- Physics
- History/Government
- Typewriting
- Shorthand
English Language and Mathematics are the two named credits, with three more drawn from a long list. The bracketed note confirms that Literature in English cannot substitute for English Language.
That list reaches well beyond commerce, taking in Biology, Chemistry and Physics as well as Typewriting, Shorthand and Office Practice.
An accounting applicant is therefore not required to have sat Principles of Accounts at all, which surprises many candidates.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Mathematics and any two subjects from below:
- Geography
- Commerce
- Government
- Principles of Accounts
- Economics
The JAMB list narrows to five commercial and social science papers. English Language and Mathematics are compulsory, and two come from Geography, Commerce, Government, Principles of Accounts and Economics.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into YABATECH for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 150 or above in your JAMB result.

Yaba College of Technology, or YABATECH, is a Federal Polytechnic in Lagos State. It is regarded as one of the best polytechnics in the state and is funded and managed by the federal government.

Principles of Accounts Is Optional at YABATECH Accountancy
English Language and Mathematics are the only compulsory subjects on either list, which leaves three open credits and two open JAMB papers.
Principles of Accounts appears as an option in both places but is never required, so a candidate without it can still apply. Check the two pools separately and make sure your score reaches 150 for the 2026/2027 session.
