This article is designed to help students who wish to study Public Administration Faculty of Social and Management Sciences Federal Polytechnic, Oko (OKOPOLY).
It is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any courses offered in OKOPOLY to carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.
The polytechnic is situated within Oko town in Orumba North Local Government of Anambra State.
The kernel of what eventually became the polytechnic was the brainchild of the Oko Progressive Union (OPU), greatly catalysed by the patronage, resourcefulness and result-oriented leadership of its pioneer chairman, a former Executive Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Alex Ekwueme.
The institution is strategically located and surrounded by several centres of industries, commerce and diverse local crafts such as Awka (well known for blacksmith/iron works), Nnewi (Industry and technological products) and Onitsha and Aba (reputed for Commerce and Industries).
The climatic condition of the host community ranges between 28 and 42 degrees centigrade.
It is one of Nigeria’s fastest-developing tertiary institutions with a highly futuristic disposition. It has a functional memorandum of understanding with universities within and outside the country. The Polytechnic has three campuses.
- The main campus at Oko occupies a total land area of 89 hectares.
- Ufuma campus: This occupies a total land area of 52 hectares.
- Atani campus: This occupies a total area of 40 hectares.
To study Public administration, candidates must meet the following requirements.
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Public Administration;
- English Language (not Literature in English) and Mathematics and any three subjects from the following: Economics/Commerce,
- Business Methods,
- Principles of Accounts,
- Literature in English Geography,
- Office Practice Government,
- Biology/Agricultural Science,
- History/Government Typewriting Shorthand
Jamb Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Public Administration under the Faculty of Social & Management Sciences in the above Universities include;
- History and
U.T.M.E. Subjects Special Requirement
Requires Mathematics and any of Geography, Literature in English as UTME subject.
Requires Government and any two from History, Economics, Commerce, Principle of Accounting, Literature in English, Geography and Agricultural Science/Biology.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Public Administration if you don’t intend to use UTME.
Requires O/L credits in at least four subjects, English Lang. and a pass in Mathematics with any three from Economics, Govt/Hist, CRK/IRK, Accounts, Commerce, Lit-in-English, Bio/Agric. Sci, Health Sci.
Kad-poly, Imte, Wolex and Osistech
Require credits in English Lang. and Mathematics.
Accepts as UTME subjects also Commerce, Accts, Geography, Mathematics, Statistics. CRK/IRK.
Requires credit passes in English Language, Economics, Government and a pass in Mathematics.
Accepts as one of the three other subjects Statistics, CRS, Information Technology and any one of the Science subjects.
Requires a Credit Pass in one Basic Science Subject as course requirement. It also accepts Credit Pass in History.
Requires Government or History and any two of Economics, Commerce, geography and Mathematics as UTME subjects.
Accepts Certificate Course of the College or from any recognised institution OR any other qualification recognized by the College Academic Board.
Requires credit passes in Commerce, Accounts, Geography, Mathematics, Statistics, CRK/IRK and accepts a pass in Mathematics.
Requires English Language, History, Government, and any two of History, Economics, I.R.K./C.R.K. k)
Accepts only Biology or Agricultural Science. It does not accept History and Lit. in Eng. as a course requirement for Public Administration.
Requires credit passes in English Language, Economics, Government, Geography, Statistics, Accounts, Commerce, Economics, CRS, Information Communication Technology and History. A pass in Mathematics is accepted.
TOPS requires credit passes in English Language, Economics, Government and a pass in Mathematics.
All candidates interested in getting admitted into Federal Polytechnic, Oko for the 2019/2020 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 100 or above in your JAMB result.
