Chemistry splits into theory, objectives and a practical paper, and past questions are useful for all three. They show which calculations recur, which definitions examiners want word for word, and how the practical questions are phrased year after year.
This page explains how to work through them, with a free timed test to check yourself against.

Free timed objectives
Our WAEC CBT practice test covers Chemistry among 15 subjects, marked automatically. The objective section is where most candidates lose time, and practising against a clock is the only reliable way to fix that.
The calculations that keep coming back
Mole concept, concentration and dilution, titration, empirical and molecular formulae, gas laws, and electrolysis appear in some form almost every session. They are predictable enough that drilling them is time well spent.
Work each one through on paper rather than reading a worked example. The step you always forget only reveals itself when you are the one holding the pen.
Equations and units
- Balance every equation before using it. An unbalanced equation invalidates the calculation that follows.
- Include state symbols where the question asks for them.
- Carry units through each step rather than adding them at the end.
- Round only at the final answer, to the significant figures requested.
Organic chemistry is predictable
The organic section tends to revisit the same ground: alkanes, alkenes and alkynes, alcohols, alkanoic acids, esterification and simple polymers. Learn the general formulae and the characteristic reactions of each family and a large block of marks becomes reliable.
Do not skip the practical paper
The practical questions follow a narrow pattern: titration, qualitative analysis of salts, and observation of reactions. Learning the expected observations and the standard wording for them is worth a surprising number of marks.
Official syllabus and materials
WAEC holds the copyright to its question papers. The current Chemistry syllabus is published by the West African Examinations Council at waecnigeria.org, and approved texts come through accredited bookshops.
Pick one calculation type tonight
Choose the calculation you dread most, work five past examples of it in a row, and check each. Repetition on one narrow topic beats a scattered hour across the whole syllabus.
