Physics punishes candidates who memorise formulas without understanding when to apply them. Past questions expose that gap immediately, because the same principle appears dressed in a different scenario each year and you have to recognise it.
Here is how to practise properly, along with a free timed test you can sit now.

Practise free against the clock
Our WAEC CBT practice test includes Physics among 15 subjects, scored the moment you finish. Working under a timer is the part most candidates skip, and it is the part that decides whether you complete the paper.
Recognise the principle first
Before reaching for a formula, name the physics involved. Is this conservation of energy, an equation of motion, Ohm’s law, a wave relationship? Candidates who identify the principle pick the right formula almost automatically.
Those who start by hunting for a formula that contains the given symbols tend to pick one that fits the letters but not the situation.
Units and significant figures
- Convert everything to SI units before substituting. Centimetres and grams cause more lost marks than hard concepts.
- Write the formula, then the substitution, then the answer, each on its own line.
- Give the unit with every final answer, even when it feels obvious.
Topics that recur
Mechanics, waves and sound, electricity and magnetism, heat energy, and light appear in nearly every session. Modern physics and electronics show up less often but are usually straightforward when they do, which makes them cheap marks to secure.
The practical paper
Practical questions usually involve taking readings, tabulating them, plotting a graph and deducing a value from the slope. The marks sit in the method as much as the result, so label axes, state the scale, and show how you read the gradient.
Official syllabus and materials
WAEC owns the copyright to its question papers. The current Physics syllabus is published by the West African Examinations Council at waecnigeria.org, and approved texts are sold through accredited bookshops.
Draw one graph properly
Take a past practical question, plot the graph on real graph paper, and work out the gradient as if it were marked. It is a skill that rusts quickly and recovers just as fast.
