Entry Requirements

O’Level Subject Combination

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Home Economics & Education include the following:

  • Five (5) ‘O’ Level NTC/NBC credit passes or TC II merit including English Language, Mathematics, Home Economics, Biology, and Chemistry.

All five credits are named, so nothing on this list is optional. Home Economics must sit at credit level, which rules out candidates who did not take it at senior secondary.

Three qualification types are accepted, covering ordinary O Level credits, National Technical and Business Certificate passes, and a Teachers Grade II at merit.

JAMB UTME Subject Combination

Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB

  • English Language
  • Chemistry
  • Biology or Agricultural Science and one (1) other subject

The JAMB combination is much looser. English Language and Chemistry are fixed, Biology or Agricultural Science takes the third place, and the fourth paper is open.

Neither Home Economics nor Mathematics appears there, although both are compulsory credits, so the form is no guide to what your result must show.

Direct Entry Requirement

These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Home Economics and Education if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;

  • NCE merit in Home Economics
  • ‘A’ Level passes in two (2) of Chemistry or any Biology, Botany, and Agricultural Science.
  • ND/HND credit in Home Economics, Food Science, Hotel and Catering Management, or any other related program.

Direct Entry brings Home Economics back. An NCE at merit in the subject qualifies, as does an ND or HND at credit in Home Economics, Food Science or Hotel and Catering Management.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into YABATECH  for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 150 or above in your JAMB result.

About Yaba College of Technology

Yaba College of Technology, or YABATECH, is a Federal Polytechnic in Lagos State. It is regarded as one of the best polytechnics in the state and is funded and managed by the federal government.

The College of Technology has been in operation since 1947 and thus has a wealth of experience in training students in Science, Technology, and Commerce; this experience and commitment is reflected in the college’s large alumni base.

Yaba College of Technology is Nigeria’s first higher education institution to establish a Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, with connections to business and industry.

Home Economics Counts at YABATECH Except on the JAMB Form

All five O Level credits are named, including Home Economics itself, which makes the credit list the strictest part of this application.

The JAMB combination asks only for English Language, Chemistry and a biological subject, so it will not prompt you about Home Economics or Mathematics. Check the credits first, then clear 150 in JAMB for the 2026/2027 session.
