This is to inform the general public and all Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) aspirants that the Department of Marine Engineering Technology admission requirements has been published.
The requirements cover the O Level credits, the four JAMB papers and the minimum UTME score. English Language sits in a different position on each of the two lists, which is worth noticing.

O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Marine Engineering include Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry and any two subjects from below:
- Biology/Agricultural Science
- Technical Drawing
- Basic Electronics/Basic Electricity
- Auto Mechanics
- Metal Work
- Further Mathematics
- English Language
- Geography
- Economics/Commerce
Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry are the three named credits, with two more drawn from the list below. English Language appears in that optional group rather than as a fixed requirement.
The rest of the list is built for technical college candidates, with Technical Drawing, Basic Electricity, Auto Mechanics and Metal Work all counting.
Biology, Agricultural Science, Further Mathematics, Geography and Economics or Commerce round it out, so the two open places are easy to fill.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Chemistry
- Physics or Technical Drawing
The JAMB form makes English Language compulsory alongside Mathematics and Chemistry, with the fourth paper a choice between Physics and Technical Drawing.
So English Language has to be sat in JAMB whether or not it counted towards your five credits.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into YABATECH for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 150 or above in your JAMB result.

Where English Language Sits on the YABATECH Marine Engineering Lists
Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry are the named O Level credits, with two further subjects drawn from a technical leaning list that also includes English Language.
On the JAMB form English Language becomes compulsory and the fourth paper may be Physics or Technical Drawing. Register on that basis and make sure your score reaches 150 for the 2026/2027 session.
