The UTME combination follows the same logic, naming only English Language and leaving the other three papers to you, provided they come from Arts or the Social Sciences.

What the department does not relax is the scoring. Two separate marks of 200 apply, and the second one is earned after JAMB rather than in it.

The admission requirements consist of O’level Subject combinations, JAMB UTME Subject combinations, and School and Departmental Cut-Off Marks.

UI Department Of Geography Admission Requirements

O’level Subject Combinations

Candidates who wish to study Geography at the University Of Ibadan (UI) must possess Five‘O level subjects in one sitting or 6 ‘O’ level subjects in English Language, Geography and any other subjects from Arts or Social Sciences.

Two subjects are fixed in that requirement, English Language and Geography. Everything else is drawn from the Arts or Social Sciences, which leaves most candidates from those streams eligible.

Geography itself is the one credit people assume they can skip. They cannot. A candidate without it does not meet the condition regardless of how strong the other subjects are.

JAMB UTME Subject Combination

Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.

English Language and any other three subjects from Arts or Social Sciences.

Only English Language is named. The three remaining papers are yours to choose within the Arts and Social Sciences, so select the subjects you have prepared most thoroughly.

UI JAMB Cut-Off Mark

Generally, For any candidate to be admitted into the University Of Ibadan (UI) for any course, the candidate must score 200 and above in jamb. That is to say that the University Of Ibadan (UI) JAMB Cut-Off mark is 200.

This figure covers the whole university. Falling below it closes the application at the first stage, whatever your O’level results or subject combination look like.

UI Department Of Geography Departmental Cut-Off Mark

The UI Department of Geography’s Departmental Cut-Off Mark is 200. That is to say that, Candidates who seek admission to the University Of Ibadan (UI) Department of Geography must score 200 and above in the school UTME Screening exercise.

The number repeats, the exercise does not. This 200 belongs to the UI screening exercise, which is conducted separately from JAMB and assessed on its own terms.

Where the Real Hurdle Sits for UI Geography Applicants

The subject conditions are easy to satisfy for most arts and social science candidates. English Language and Geography at O’level, English Language plus three chosen papers in the UTME.

The scores are the harder part. You need 200 in JAMB to be considered and 200 again in the UI screening exercise to be offered a place in the department.

Confirm both figures and the subject wording with UI before you register, since the university can revise its requirements between admission cycles without much notice.
