Education and Science is taught under the Faculty of Education at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU). The requirements are written in general terms, naming only English Language and Mathematics.
The UTME line accepts NBC subjects alongside sciences, and the Direct Entry section recognises a TC II merit. Both options point the course at candidates from technical and teaching backgrounds.

Confirm that Education and Science appears on the current ATBU course list and that your JAMB registration records it correctly before you sit the examination.

North-eastern Nigeria’s Bauchi is home to the Federal University of Technology, known as Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU).

You require
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in relevant Science subjects, which should include the candidate’s proposed course.
- NCE credit/merit in addition to TC II merit or ‘O’ Level credit in relevant subjects.

NBC and TC II Both Count at ATBU Education and Science
The O’Level requirement is five credit passes including English Language, Mathematics and two other science subjects. The fifth credit is not specified at all.
The UTME combination asks for three relevant science or NBC subjects alongside the compulsory English Language. Accepting NBC papers at this stage is unusual and widens the field considerably.
Direct Entry offers two routes. Two ‘A’ level passes in relevant science subjects are accepted, and those must include the candidate’s proposed course.
The alternative is an NCE at credit or merit together with a TC II merit or an O’Level credit in relevant subjects. That is the route built for serving and trainee teachers.
A JAMB score of 180 and above is the screening threshold for the 2026/2027 session at ATBU and applies whichever route a candidate uses.
