The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) charges fees per level rather than per course, and the amount has changed significantly since tuition became free at federal universities. Here’s what new and returning students actually pay.
How Much is FUTA School Fees?
Tuition is free at FUTA, in line with the federal government’s tuition-free policy for federal universities. Students still pay a package of departmental and institutional charges (registration, laboratory/workshop, ICT, sports, security, and similar levies) that together make up the total below.
These are the officially published figures for the 2025/2026 session; FUTA had not released a separate 2026/2027 schedule at the time of writing.
| Level | Total Charges (2025/2026) |
| 100 Level / Fresh Students | ₦258,000 |
| 200 Level (returning) | ₦80,000 |
| 300 Level | ₦85,000 |
| 400 Level | ₦68,000 |
| 500 Level | ₦75,000 |
Fresh students pay more because of one-off charges that returning students skip: certificate verification, a refundable caution deposit, ID card, and medical examination. Field trip and professional accreditation charges, where they apply, are set by individual departments and aren’t part of this general schedule.
The (FUTA) school fees above are paid through Remita on the official student portal at futa.edu.ng, where you generate your RRR before payment.
FUTA School Fees For Part-Time Students
Part-time and postgraduate charges are set separately from the regular undergraduate schedule above and vary by programme. Check with the relevant college office or the postgraduate school for the current rate before budgeting.
How Much is FUTA Acceptance Fee?
Reported figures for the FUTA acceptance fee have ranged between ₦40,000 and ₦50,000 depending on the source, and we couldn’t pin down a single confirmed amount for 2026/2027 that agreed across independent sources.
Confirm the exact figure on your admission letter or the student portal before paying, since this is a one-off charge new intakes must clear to be considered registered students.
How Much is FUTA Hostel Fee?
Hostel accommodation is included in the overall level charges above rather than billed as a separate line for most students, so what you see in the fresh students’ total already accounts for it.
Students who want a specific room type or off-campus arrangement should confirm directly with the Student Affairs office, since space is limited and allocated early.

Comparing FUTA’s Fresh vs Returning Student Charges
FUTA’s fresh student total of 258,000 Naira runs more than three times the 200-level charge of 80,000 Naira, largely because of the one-off certificate verification, caution deposit, ID card, and medical exam fees that returning students no longer pay.
Charges then ease slightly across the upper levels, settling at 85,000 Naira for 300 level, 68,000 Naira for 400 level, and 75,000 Naira for 500 level, reflecting the lighter administrative load on final-year students.
Budget separately for the unconfirmed 40,000 to 50,000 Naira acceptance fee if you are a new intake, and generate your Remita RRR on the futa.edu.ng portal before each payment to avoid delays.
FUTA updates its schedule of charges at the start of each session, so double-check the current PDF on the official portal before you pay.
