The management of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has announced the deadline for payment of school fees and registration for the 2026/2027 Academic Session.

Newly admitted and returning students are advised to pay up all the fees required by the school before the deadline.
FUTO School Fees and Registration Deadline
The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has announced the deadline for payment of fees. The deadline for fees is March 2026.
If you pay your school fees after the deadline, it is not considered valid, and you may go through a lot of filing processes to get your money.
The penalty for defaulting is a loss of studentship for the 2026/2027 Academic Session. Note that the lost session shall form part of the total duration allowed for the Programme.
However, a student who has a genuine reason to apply for Temporary Withdrawal from studies for the session must follow the due process before the end of the First Semester.
How Much Is FUTO School Fees?
FUTO school fees changed considerably from what they used to be a few sessions ago. Like most Nigerian federal universities, FUTO moved away from the old nominal “sundry charges only” model (where total fees sat around N45,000 to N61,000) and now charges a real tuition component on top of those charges, following the nationwide federal university fee reviews that started in the 2024/2025 session.
Multiple independent sources checked for the 2026/2027 session agree that FUTO fresh students now pay roughly N100,000 to N190,000 depending on department, with Medicine and Health Science programmes charged far more (figures as high as N390,000 to N572,000 have been reported for Medicine and Surgery specifically). Returning students generally pay less than freshers, in the rough range of N62,000 to N130,000, again depending on department and level.
These ranges are wide because FUTO prices departments differently (Engineering, Health Technology and clinical programmes cost more than general Arts and Social Science programmes), and because we could not find a single official FUTO bursary circular listing every department’s exact figure for 2026/2027. Treat the numbers above as a realistic range, not an exact quote, and confirm your own department’s figure on the FUTO student portal before paying.
Here is the older sundry-charges breakdown that used to make up the bulk of FUTO fees before the tuition component was added. This no longer reflects your full bill, but it is still useful background for what each listed charge used to cover:

FUTO School Fees For Part-Time Students
Part-time programmes at FUTO have historically cost between N30,000 and N120,000 depending on the course, with part-time postgraduate programmes going up to around N250,000. These figures have not been independently reconfirmed for 2026/2027, so part-time applicants should check directly with the School of Part-Time Studies before registering.

How Much Is FUTO Acceptance Fee?
FUTO’s acceptance-style charge (now often billed as a “development levy” rather than a plain acceptance fee) sits in the N40,000 to N52,500 range based on the sources we cross-checked, up from the older N20,000 figure. New intakes must clear this charge before their admission is treated as confirmed, so verify the exact current amount on the admission portal rather than assuming last session’s number.
How Much Is FUTO Hostel Fee?
Students who want to stay in the hostel accommodations made available by the school authorities need to apply ahead of time.
FUTO’s hostel fee has been reported around N18,000 to N20,000 for an academic session, though this hasn’t moved as dramatically as tuition. Rooms are shared, often with up to 10 students per room and shared bathrooms, so don’t expect hostel life to match living off-campus.
