Lagos State University, also known as LASU, was established in 1983 by the enabling Law of Lagos State of Nigeria to advance learning and establish academic excellence.
The university caters to a population of over 35,000 students enrolled full-time. The university also offers courses at Diploma, Undergraduate, and Postgraduate levels. Lagos State University is in Ojo, a town in Lagos State, Nigeria.
LASU is the only state university in the former British colony. Lagos State University offers diploma, degree, and postgraduate programmes, including an MBA program.
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Biochemistry;
You require; Five SSCE (5) credit passes in English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Biology.
All five credits are named, which makes this the strictest list in the post. Physics and Mathematics are both required even though only one of them is sat in JAMB.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Biochemistry under the Faculty of Sciences at LASU include;
Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics
The JAMB combination allows one substitution. Biology and Chemistry are fixed beside the compulsory English Language, and the fourth paper is either Physics or Mathematics.

These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Biochemistry if you don’t intend to use UTME.
You require;
Two (2) ‘A’ level passes chosen from Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Biology.
NCE/ND/HND in related programmes plus the UTME requirements.
The A Level route accepts any two of Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology with no fixed pairing, which is the most flexible condition anywhere in this post.
The diploma route is different. An NCE, ND or HND comes with the UTME requirements attached, so the five credits and the subject combination still apply in full.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into LASU for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 160 or above in your JAMB result.
What the UTME Clause Costs LASU Biochemistry Diploma Holders
Chemistry and Biology are required at every stage, with English Language joining them among the credits and on the JAMB form. Those three come first.
Physics and Mathematics are both compulsory credits but share one place in JAMB. Diploma holders should note that their route adds the UTME conditions rather than replacing them, then confirm a score of 160 or above for the 2026/2027 session.
