This article is designed to help students who wish to study Education and Islamic Studies under the Faculty of Education at Lagos State University.
Confirm that Education and Islamic Studies is still listed at LASU before you register for JAMB. A waiver adds Mathematics to the credit list, which the general line leaves out.

Lagos State University, also known as LASU, was established in 1983 by the enabling Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, for the advancement of learning and establishment of academic excellence.
The university caters to a population of over 35,000 students enrolled full-time. The university also offers courses at Diploma, Undergraduate, and Postgraduate levels. Lagos State University is located in Ojo, a town in Lagos State, Nigeria.
LASU is the only state university in the former British colony. Lagos State University offers diploma, degree, and postgraduate programs, including an MBA program.
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education and Islamic Studies; You require;
Five (5) SSC credit passes including English Language, Islamic Studies, and three (3) other relevant subjects.
English Language and Islamic Studies are named, with the other three described only as relevant subjects. No Arabic alternative is offered at this stage.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
- LASU requires an ‘O’ Level credit pass in Mathematics.
The waiver makes Mathematics a compulsory credit, which leaves two genuinely open places rather than three and applies to every candidate.

JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Education and Islamic Studies under the Faculty of Education at LASU include;
Islamic Studies/Arabic and two (2) other Social Science or Arts subjects.
On the JAMB form Arabic becomes an accepted alternative to Islamic Studies, and the two remaining papers come from the Social Sciences or the Arts.
A candidate who sat Arabic rather than Islamic Studies can therefore register a valid combination but may still fall short on the O Level credit.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education and Islamic Studies if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- NCE merit in Islamic Studies and Education.
- ‘A’ Level passes in Arabic/ Islamic Studies and any other relevant subject.

Mathematics and Arabic at LASU Education and Islamic Studies
Islamic Studies is named among the credits with no alternative, while Arabic is accepted in its place from the JAMB form onwards. That gap is worth checking early.
The waiver also makes Mathematics a compulsory credit, which neither the general line nor the JAMB combination mentions. Confirm both, then clear 160 in JAMB for the 2026/2027 session.
