Admission Requirements

Programs leading to a postgraduate diploma

An applicant for admission to the university’s postgraduate diploma must be:

  • (i) An Obafemi Awolowo University alumnus or alumna with at least a third-class degree.
  • (a) Master Degree ProgramsApplicants must typically hold a Second Class (Lower Division) Honours Degree from Obafemi Awolowo University or another recognized institution.
  • (b) Master of Philosophy Degree Programs: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree with a weighted average of between 50 and 59% (C) at the Masters level
  • OR a Master’s degree with a long essay and a weighted coursework average that, in most cases, cannot be less than 60% (B)S.
  • (c) Programs leading to a doctor of philosophy A graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University or another accredited university with a master’s degree, a research thesis, and a weighted coursework average that, typically, cannot be less than 60%
  • (B), qualifies as an applicant for admission to the Ph.D. degree program.
  • (ii) A 2nd Class (Lower Division) or higher graduate from any other accredited university

The requirement for enrollment into first-degree programs at the Obafemi Awolowo University which are five Credit passes in a relevant subject, including English Language and Mathematics (where required)

This should be in not more than two sittings and must be met by ALL Candidates in accordance with University regulations and the published admission requirements.

  • A photocopied certificate of discharge from NYSC
  • A photocopy of your O-Level diploma (NECO/WAEC).

  • A marriage certificate, if necessary.
  • A research proposal of no more than 3 pages and no more than 5 pages, respectively, for applicants seeking a Master’s by Coursework with a Research Thesis and a Ph.D.

  • All programs have an N15,000.00 (fifteen thousand Naira) application processing fee.

  • All Applicants should note that they will be bound by all the Regulations Governing Postgraduate Studies at the Obafemi Awolowo University if their applications are successful.
