This is to inform the general public and all aspiring students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) that the admission requirements for the Department of Education & Geography have been published.
The sections below cover the O’Level credit passes, four Benin waiver remarks, the UTME subject combination, the Direct Entry route and the JAMB score the university requires.
Geography anchors the course, with Physics offered as an alternative in several of the waivers. English Language and Mathematics appear throughout.
There is a waiver attached to each stage of the process here, and in every case it is the waiver rather than the general line that Benin applies.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education & Geography include the following:
- Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include Geography, English Language, and Mathematics.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
- UNIBEN requires Mathematics, Geography/Physics, and one (1) other Social Science subject.
- UNIBEN accepts NCE General Mathematics/General English in lieu of ‘O’ Level Mathematics/English Language.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Geography plus two (2) other Social Sciences/Arts subjects.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
- UNIBEN accepts Geography, Mathematics, and any other subject.
This waiver differs from the general UTME line in one important way. It brings Mathematics into the combination and opens the final slot to any subject, rather than restricting it to the arts and social sciences.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education and Geography if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes/NCE merit which should include Geography/Physics.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
- UNIBEN requires two (2) or three (3) NCE merit passes, including Geography/Physics, plus three (3) or two (2) ‘O’ Level credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics, at one (1) sitting.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result.
Four Waivers Govern UNIBEN Geography Education Entry
At O’Level, Benin wants Mathematics, Geography or Physics, and one other social science subject, and it will accept NCE General Mathematics or General English in place of those school certificate credits.
At UTME the waiver asks for Geography, Mathematics and any other subject alongside English Language, which is wider than the general line in one respect and narrower in another.
For Direct Entry, NCE candidates need two or three merit passes including Geography or Physics, supported by O’Level credits in English Language and Mathematics from a single sitting. UTME candidates need 200 in JAMB.
