This is to inform the general public and all University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) aspirants that the admission requirements for the Department of Architecture have been published.
The requirements cover the O Level credits, the four JAMB papers, two Direct Entry routes and the minimum UTME score. The fifth O Level credit draws on an unusually long list of trade and art subjects.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Architecture include Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and any one subject from below:
- Fine Art
- Geography or Wood Work
- Biology
- Economics
- Technical Drawing
- Further Mathematics
- Introduction to Building Construction
- Bricklaying/Block laying
- Concreting, Wall, Floor, and Ceiling Finishing
- Joinery
- Carpentary
- Decorative Painting
- Lining, Sign, and Design
- Wall Hanging
- Color Mixing/Matching and Glazing
- Ceramics
- Graphics Design
- Graphic Printing
- Basic Electricity
Four credits are fixed at English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. The fifth comes from a list that reaches well beyond conventional school subjects.
Bricklaying, Joinery, Ceramics and Graphics Design all appear there, which opens the course to candidates from technical and vocational colleges.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Physics
- Mathematics, and any of Chemistry, Geography, Art, Biology, and Economics.
The JAMB list is far shorter. Physics and Mathematics are fixed beside the compulsory English Language, and the fourth paper is limited to Chemistry, Geography, Art, Biology or Economics.
None of the trade subjects accepted at O Level can be registered in JAMB, so they help with the credits only.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Architecture if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes chosen from Mathematics or Physics and Chemistry, Geography or Fine Arts.
- ND/HND upper credits in relevant field.
Direct Entry keeps Mathematics or Physics as one pass and allows Chemistry, Geography or Fine Arts as the other. An ND or HND at upper credit in a relevant field is the alternative route.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNICROSS for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 140 or above in your JAMB result.
The Trade Subjects That Count Towards UNICROSS Architecture
Mathematics and Physics appear at every stage of this application, and Chemistry is a compulsory credit as well. Those three carry most of the weight before any option is chosen.
The long trade list applies to the fifth O Level credit only, so a candidate relying on Joinery or Ceramics still needs a conventional subject for JAMB. Check both lists and clear 140 for the 2026/2027 session.
