Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Biochemistry include Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- English Language
- Chemistry
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Biology
All five credits are specified, which makes this the strictest list in the post. Both Physics and Mathematics are required even though only one of them is sat in JAMB.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics or Mathematics
The JAMB combination allows one substitution. Biology and Chemistry are fixed beside the compulsory English Language, and the fourth paper is either Physics or Mathematics.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Biochemistry if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes chosen from Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Biology.
- NCE/ND/HND in related programs plus the UTME requirements.
The A Level route accepts any two of Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology with no fixed pairing. The diploma route is different, since it attaches the UTME requirements.
That means an NCE, ND or HND holder still has to satisfy the five credits and the subject combination, so the qualification shortens the route rather than replacing the conditions.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNICROSS for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 140 or above in your JAMB result.
What the UTME Clause Means for UNICROSS Biochemistry Diploma Holders
Chemistry and Biology are required at every stage, with English Language joining them at O Level and in JAMB. Those three are where your preparation should start.
Physics and Mathematics are both compulsory credits but share one place on the JAMB form. Diploma holders should note the UTME clause attached to their route, then confirm a score of 140 or above for the 2026/2027 session.
