Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Statistics include Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- English Language
- Mathematics and at least three (3) subjects from Physics, Statistics, Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Economics and Geography
English Language and Mathematics are compulsory, and the other three credits come from a six subject list. Statistics and Further Mathematics appear there, which suits candidates from a strong quantitative background.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Mathematics and any two (2) of Physics, Chemistry, and Economics.
The JAMB list is narrower than the O Level one. Only Physics, Chemistry and Economics are offered, so Statistics, Further Mathematics and Geography drop away at registration.
A candidate whose three extra credits were Statistics, Further Mathematics and Geography still has to sit two of Physics, Chemistry and Economics in JAMB.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Statistics if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes to include Mathematics or Statistics. NCE credit in relevant subjects
Direct Entry treats Mathematics and Statistics as equivalent, so either one satisfies the named pass. An NCE at credit in relevant subjects is listed as the alternative route.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNICROSS for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 140 or above in your JAMB result.
Where Statistics Counts and Where It Does Not at UNICROSS
Mathematics is the constant across all three routes, compulsory at O Level, compulsory in JAMB, and acceptable as a Direct Entry pass. Everything else shifts between the lists.
Statistics itself is accepted as an O Level credit and as a Direct Entry pass, but it is not among the JAMB options. Plan your UTME papers around Physics, Chemistry and Economics, and clear 140 for the 2026/2027 session.
