This is to inform the general public and all Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) aspirants that the Department of Fashion Design & Clothing Technology admission requirements has been published.
The requirements cover the O Level credits, the four JAMB papers, the Direct Entry conditions and the minimum UTME score. The three lists name noticeably different subjects.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Fashion & Clothing Technology include Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- Home Economics/Technical Drawing and any four subjects from below:
- Fine Art
- History
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology/Agricultural Science
- Mathematics
- Clothing and Textiles
- Literature in English
- English Language
- Home Management
- At least a credit pass in English Language is compulsory.
Home Economics or Technical Drawing opens the list, with four more subjects from the group below and English Language made compulsory by the closing line.
That leaves three genuinely open places among Fine Art, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, Mathematics, Clothing and Textiles, Literature in English and Home Management.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Chemistry and any two of Biology/Agricultural Science/Physics/Mathematics.
The JAMB combination is purely scientific. Chemistry is fixed beside the compulsory English Language, and two papers come from Biology, Agricultural Science, Physics and Mathematics.
Neither Home Economics nor Clothing and Textiles appears there, so the subjects that define the course at O Level have no place on the form.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Fashion Design And Clothing Technology if you don’t intend to use UTME. YABATECH offers the course as a Fashion Design and requires the following:
- ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Fine Art or Clothing, Textile or Home Economics, and any two subjects from the following History, Geography, Biology, Health Science, Technical Drawing, Economics, Mathematics, and Chemistry.
The Direct Entry line brings the practical subjects back, requiring Fine Art, Clothing, Textile or Home Economics alongside English Language and two further subjects.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into YABATECH for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 150 or above in your JAMB result.

Practical Subjects Count Everywhere but JAMB at YABATECH Fashion Design
English Language is the one subject required on all three lists. Beyond it, the O Level and Direct Entry conditions are built around Home Economics, Clothing and Textiles and Fine Art.
The JAMB combination is the exception, asking for Chemistry plus two science papers and ignoring the practical subjects entirely. Prepare for both sides, then clear 150 in JAMB for the 2026/2027 session.
