This is to inform the general public and all Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) aspirants that the Department of Statistics admission requirements has been published.
The requirements cover the O Level credits, the four JAMB papers, the Direct Entry conditions and the minimum UTME score. The credit list and the JAMB list point in very different directions.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Statistics include Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- Mathematics
- A Basic Science and any three subjects from below:
- Economics
- Geography
- Government/History
- Further Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology/Agricultural Science
- English Language
- Typewriting
- Credit passes in English Language and Physics are compulsory.
Mathematics and a basic science subject are named at the top, with three more drawn from the group below. The closing line then makes English Language and Physics compulsory as well.
That leaves one free place among Economics, Geography, Government or History, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science and Typewriting.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Mathematics and any two subjects from below:
- Economics/Commerce
- History/Government
- CRK/IRK
The JAMB list is the opposite in character. English Language and Mathematics are compulsory, and the two further papers come from Economics or Commerce, History or Government, and the religious knowledge papers.
No science subject appears there at all, even though Physics is a compulsory credit, so the form gives no hint of the science requirement on your result.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Statistics if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- YABATECH requires credit in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics/Commerce, Biology or Further Mathematics Physics, Chemistry, Geography, Economics, Biology/Agricultural Science, Commerce or Accounting, and Government/History at not more than two sittings.
The Direct Entry line restates the credits across a wider subject list and adds a sitting limit. All of them must come from no more than two examinations.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into YABATECH for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 150 or above in your JAMB result.

Science Credits, Arts JAMB Papers at YABATECH Statistics
Mathematics, a basic science, English Language and Physics are all required as credits once the closing clause is counted, which leaves a single open place.
The JAMB combination asks for commercial, social science and religious knowledge papers instead, so it will not prompt you about Physics. Check the credits and the two sitting limit, then clear 150 in JAMB for the 2026/2027 session.
