O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Welding & Fabrication Technology include Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry and any two subjects from below:
- Biology/Agricultural Science
- Technical Drawing
- Basic Electronics/Basic Electricity
- Auto Mechanics
- Metal Work
- Woodwork (for Civil Engineering Tech.)
- Further Mathematics
- English Language
- Geography
- Economics/ Commerce. At least a credit pass in English Language is required.
Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry are the three named credits, with two more drawn from the list below them. A credit pass in English Language is required on top of those.
The optional list suits technical college candidates, since Basic Electricity, Auto Mechanics, Metal Work and Technical Drawing all count towards the two open places.
Geography, Economics and Commerce also appear there, so the list is not restricted to workshop subjects alone.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Mathematics,
- Physics/Technical Drawing
- Chemistry
The JAMB combination is much tighter. English Language, Mathematics and Chemistry are fixed, and the only choice is between Physics and Technical Drawing for the fourth paper.
That choice is unusual, since Technical Drawing is rarely accepted in place of Physics on an engineering programme.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into YABATECH for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 150 or above in your JAMB result.

Where Technical Drawing Replaces Physics at YABATECH Welding and Fabrication
Mathematics and Chemistry are required on both lists, with English Language compulsory in JAMB and as a credit. Those three are the grades to secure first.
Physics is a named credit but may be swapped for Technical Drawing on the JAMB form, which is the detail worth acting on. Workshop subjects count towards the two optional credits, and your JAMB score needs to reach 150 for the 2026/2027 session.
