This is to inform the general public and all Federal University of Technology Minna (FUTMINNA) aspirants that the Department of Food Science & Nutrition Admission requirements has been published.
The sections below cover the O’Level credit passes, a Minna waiver on the fifth subject, the four subjects sat in JAMB UTME, the Direct Entry route with its own waiver, and the JAMB score needed for screening.
Food Science and Nutrition sits between the sciences and the catering trades. Chemistry and Biology or Agricultural Science anchor the requirement, while catering and confectionery subjects appear among the accepted O’Level credits.
The first waiver is the one to read closely, because it names which subjects can fill the fifth O’Level slot and adds a separate condition on Physics.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Food Science & Nutrition include Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/Agric, Science, Physics, Basic Catering and Food Services, Bakery and Confectioneries, Hotel & Catering Crafty course (Cookery), Hotel & Catering Craft Course (Food /Drinks Services) and Basic Electricity.
Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks
- FUTMINNA accepts any one of Physics, Geography, Economics, Home Economics, Food and Nutrition as the fifth subject. At least a pass in Physics is required.
Read those two sentences together. The fifth credit can come from any of the named subjects, but a pass in Physics is still expected even when Physics is not the subject you use to fill that slot.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Chemistry, Mathematics/Physics, and Agricultural Science

These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Food Science And Nutrition if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry, Biology/Physics/Agric Science/Botany/Zoology.
Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks
- FUTMINNA accepts OND with lower credit/NCE merit in the Agricultural components of choice and a minimum of merit in the other component or an HND with a minimum of lower credit to be admitted into the 300 level.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into FUTMINNA for the 2026/2027 session should know that you must have scored 180 or above in your JAMB result to be eligible for the screening.

The Physics Condition in FUTMINNA Food Science and Nutrition
Most candidates focus on Chemistry and Biology and miss the Physics line in the waiver. A pass in Physics is required, which is a lower bar than a credit but still a condition that has to be met.
In UTME you sit English Language, Chemistry, either Mathematics or Physics, and Agricultural Science. A JAMB score of at least 180 makes the application eligible for the screening exercise at Minna.
Direct Entry takes two A Level passes in Chemistry and one of Biology, Physics, Agricultural Science, Botany or Zoology. Diploma holders should note that an HND at lower credit can lead to admission at 300 level.
