Agricultural Education is taught under the Faculty of Education at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU). Chemistry is compulsory at O’Level, which is stricter than the UTME stage that follows it.
The UTME subject pool runs to seven papers and includes Economics and Geography. Direct Entry then offers three routes, two of them through the NCE.

Admission Requirements for Agricultural Education
WAEC/NECO Subject Combination
The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study Agricultural Education is Five (5) ‘O’ Level credits or equivalent in English Language, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science, Mathematics, and another relevant subject.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Agricultural Education at ATBU are Any three subjects from Chemistry, Biology, Agriculture, Physics, Economics, Geography, and Mathematics.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Agricultural Education if you do not intend to use UTME.
You require
- NCE merit pass level in Agriculture (Double Major).
- NCE at merit pass level in Biology and any other Science subject.
- Two passes at ‘A’ level in Biology/Botany/Zoology and any other Science subject.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into ATBU for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
The O Level Line Is Stricter Than JAMB at ATBU Agricultural Education
The O’Level requirement is five credits or equivalent in English Language, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, Mathematics, and another relevant subject. Four papers are effectively named.
The UTME combination is far more open. English Language is compulsory and the three remaining subjects may be any of Chemistry, Biology, Agriculture, Physics, Economics, Geography and Mathematics.
Economics and Geography in that pool mean a candidate can build a valid JAMB combination without Chemistry, even though the credit is still required from secondary school.
Direct Entry offers three options: an NCE at merit in Agriculture as a double major, an NCE at merit in Biology with another science, or two advanced level passes in Biology, Botany or Zoology with another science.
A JAMB score of 180 and above is the screening threshold for the 2026/2027 session at ATBU and applies whichever route a candidate uses.
