The Federal Polytechnic Nekede Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering is a competitive programme, and its requirements place English Language among the optional O’Level subjects rather than the compulsory ones.
That is unusual and worth checking, because English is named outright in the JAMB combination. The two lists do not treat the subject the same way.
The departmental post-UTME mark is also set twenty points above the general polytechnic figure, so the screening exercise is the harder of the two numerical hurdles.

O’Level Subject Combination
Candidates must have Five credits in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and any two from Biology/Agricultural Science, Engineering drawing/Technology Drawing, Geography, Economics/Commerce, Basic Electronics, and English Language.
JAMB Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following four (4) subjects in Jamb.

JAMB Score
For any candidate to be admitted to any Department in Federal Polytechnic Nekede, the Candidate must score 180 and above in JAMB.
Departmental Cut-Off Mark/ Post UTME Score
A candidate who wishes to study Electrical/Electronics Engineering (EE) at the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, must score 200 and above in the school Post UTME Screening Exercise.
English Language Sits in the Optional List at Fed Poly Nekede EE
The O’Level requirement is five credits in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, plus any two from Biology or Agricultural Science, Engineering Drawing or Technology Drawing, Geography, Economics or Commerce, Basic Electronics, and English Language.
Three subjects are named and two are chosen, which adds up correctly to five. The optional group is broad enough to suit candidates from technical as well as academic secondary schools.
Basic Electronics and Engineering Drawing appearing in that list is a real advantage for technical college leavers applying to this particular department.
The JAMB registration is four subjects: Mathematics, English, Physics and Chemistry. English is compulsory at this stage even though the O’Level line lists it as one option among several.
The general JAMB score for any department at Federal Polytechnic Nekede is 180 and above, while the Electrical and Electronics Engineering post-UTME cut-off is 200 and above.
